One of the things I love about photography is being able to capture moments that would otherwise not be. While everyone is scrambling around or chatting, I get to move about and snap photos. Candid shots are some of my favourite ones because people are being themselves,, acting naturally, and showing organic facial expressions.

One of my best friends and Soul Sisters came to visit the week of September 12th--she moved to Oregon a few years ago, and though I was able to see her briefly before she moved, it has been a while since then. When she told me she was visiting, I was so excited to see her! And I was running a "grand opening" special for friends and family--a portrait session at more than 50% off. She took the opportunity to book a session the Friday before she was leaving, and I was ecstatic!
In 2011, my family lived in Tucson, and Maggie came to visit us from Phoenix. Her oldest son had just been born a few months before my daughter, and I just had to get photos of him. He was the most precious baby boy I had met since my own son was born! He was learning to walk, and he was so curious. We ended up going to Reid Park, and some of the photos I was able to snap were perfect for remembering that time in his life.
Maggie wanted to get some shots of her oldest because he started Kindergarten the week they returned home to Oregon. I thought this was perfect--how amazing was it that I was able to capture precious moments from his first year, and now I was going to be able to document this amazing little boys Kindergarten milestone! He has grown up so much, but I still see that silly and curious little baby I met all those years ago. Mum wrote what he wants to be on a Whiteboard--an Astronaut!

It had been at least 5 years since I had seen the rest of the Doherty Family. Cody has grown up SO MUCH--he was just a wee pre-teen when I last saw him, now he is growing into a man! So many fond memories of being welcomed into Maggie's family came flooding back when they all arrived at the park for their session. They were such a blessing in my life when I first met Maggie--I was pretty lonely down here, and I had moved away from my mother and all of my friends in my hometown. Life might change, and we may grow, but we will never outgrow the family we create for ourselves.
I also got the distinct pleasure of taking some impromptu Engagement photos of Maggie and her amazing man, Matt. Their family is so adorable, and I am so excited that they are taking one of many steps toward a happy life together. Maggie has always deserved appreciation and love and adoration--she found that in Matt. I was told that it is difficult to get a genuine smile out of him, but I was able to capture quite a few! I don't take all the credit--or even part of the credit for having those smiles memorialised in pictures; I owe it all to Maggie for being there and giving him something to smile about! They were both so precious, and I am happy for them!

I love my friends, and I love my family. I love how beautiful and happy they are, and how much they all glow when they are around each other. It was amazing to be able to do this, and I cannot wait until the next time I get to see Maggie and those amazing little boys!
